Six-inch Heels

As you may have read, the hottest fashion item this Fall is six-inch or higher heels. They have thick soles as well and make the wearer look more like a superhero than a dainty woman. At the Prada 2009 fashion show in Milan in September, two models tripped and others staggered. Reportedly models were crying in fear, backstage.

The shoes have not yet reached the extremes of the eleven inch high platforms (Chopines) worn by upper class women and courtesans in 15th century Europe. The shoes were so unstable that the wearers required an attendant or male friend to steady themselves. The shoes are also quite uncomfortable to wear and women, especially those over 40 are now getting injections of Restylane, Juvederm and Sculptra into the balls of their feet to provide some cushioning from the pressure and reduce the pain.
